Atherden Street, The Rocks, Tuesday June 6th 2006.
Avery Terrace is a pair of two storey Victorian terraces, constructed in 1881 of stuccoed brick with simple pitched iron roofs and built within two metres of the ten metre escarpment at the end of Atherden street. Avery Terrace is a rare example of two brick terraces built in the period termed "High Victorian" which are not typical of the architecture of the period. In a period when ornamentation and display were characteristic features of even the most humble dwellings, there is a marked restraint in the treatment of the facades.
